BASSENDOWSKI – Reinhardt August, aged 81 years, of Swift Current, passed away December 30, 2008 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre after a long courageous battle with cancer. Reinhardt will forever be remembered in our hearts and sadly missed by his special partner and companion, Luella Klaudt; son, Ken (Caroline) Bassendowski of Saskatoon; daughter, Shirley McBride of Moose Jaw; son, Don (Joyce) Bassendowski of Swift Current; six grandchildren: Greg (Lindsay) Bassendowski and Mike Bassendowski, Tasha (Mark) Anderson and Courtney (Ryan) Brazeal; Colin and Jeffrey Bassendowski; three great-grandchildren: Jayden, Dani and Ben; two sisters, Adeline (Ralph) Messner, and Sylvia McPhee; as well as a large extended family. Reinhardt was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Elsie in 1999; his brother, Jacob; and daughter-in-law, Diane. Reinhardt was born May 26, 1927 at Shamrock, Saskatchewan. He grew up in the Bolingbroke school district. Reinhardt farmed with his Dad at Kelstern. He married Elsie Lang and they moved to the McMahon area to start their own farm. In 1952 Elsie and Reinhardt moved to the family farm located just south of Swift Current. Elsie and Reinhardt retired in 1983 and moved to Swift Current. Reinhardt enjoyed curling, golfing, playing cards, going for coffee, visiting with friends and spending time with his grandchildren. The funeral service was held on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Greg Kiel officiating. The pallbearers were: Wayne Heffley, Jerry Biese, Mark Evenson, Bill Martens, Allen Blanke and Brian Blanke. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Reinhardt Bassendowski to Prostate Cancer Research. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.
