WIEBE – Harvey Edward passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 just 17 days shy of his 71st birthday. He was a loving husband to Sonya and adored Dad to Shannon and Catharine. He is survived by his sisters Irene, Dora and Rita of Steinbach, Manitoba. And his grandchildren Ian and Cameron who loved “Ampa” with all their little hearts! He is also survived by his godson Vincent Farina many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his Mother Katherine and Father Ben in the 80s. Harvey was somewhat of a hometown boy being born in Herbert in 1936. He moved to Steinbach where he went to school and met his life long friends Ed Reimer and Ed Senkiw. After school his adventurous spirit took him all over Canada in different employ. He was a merchant sailor on the Great Lakes. He was a Supply Sergeant in the Military. Harvey managed several hotels. He was even an usher in a movie theatre which would explain his great love for all the old classic movies. He joined A&W for the 1st time in Toronto in the 1960s. He was probably the longest living “A&W guy” in Canada! The Original Great Root Bear! Harvey moved to Swift Current in 1980. He enjoyed being on the prairies and built a happy home and wonderful life in Swift Current with many friends. He dabbled in different businesses and at one time family used to say, “Harvey does tires, tacos and burgers!” Harvey traveled the world with wife Sonya and he also had several trips with the grandchildren. He especially loved Disney World and the recent fishing trip with them in Bella Coola. He loved to read, and write letters to politicians telling them how to do their jobs. Golf was a favorite weekend pastime and during the summer months the clubs were usually in the trunk ready to go! One of his all-time passions was boats. He never missed an opportunity to visit a marina or Granville Island. Our fondest hope is that Harvey is smooth sailing through the blue skies in heaven! Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church with Father Antony officiating. Music was provided for the service by Julie and Tony Randall. Ushers were Stan Lautsch and Eric Lautsch. The honorary pallbearers were: Ed Reimer, Ed Senkiw Mary Moodrey and all those who shared in Harvey’s life. The active pallbearers were: Garth Bauer, Myron Krentz, Vincent Farina, Eric Lautsch, Fiacre Bracken and Garth Wightman. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home.
