Jean MacLeod's (nee Shepherdson) life journey ended October 18th, 2007 at the Gull Lake Care Centre. Her family and friends attended a private funeral service at the Chapel in the First United Church, Swift Current on Tuesday October 23, with the Reverend John Barker officiating. Jean is survived by her daughter Cathi and her husband Kim Kennedy, and grandchildren Scott and Kaitlin. Jean was born September 1, 1922 in North Battleford Saskatchewan. She was residing in Moose Jaw when she met Alex MacLeod and they were married in 1947. They celebrated 55 years of marriage before Alex's death in 2002. Alex's career in the Bank of Nova Scotia meant several moves before they returned to Swift Current in 1966, where they eventually retired. Jean was involved in the community with various organizations, but it was her love of animals that was her greatest passion. Her determined efforts on behalf of the SPCA contributed to the establishment of the SPCA used bookstore, the building of the current Animal Shelter, and the spay and neuter program. For many years she took great delight in her annual visits to the elementary schools to talk to the students about kindness to animals. Jean enjoyed golf, bridge, reading, line dancing, her dogs, travel, summers at their cabin in Prince Edward Island and most of all time with her grandchildren. She was a very dedicated caregiver to Alex for the last 12 years of his life. She will be remembered by her friends and family for her gentle caring ways. Donations may be made to the Swift Current SPCA in Jean's memory. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, Saskatchewan.
